Why choose aluminium guttering?
Plastic guttering is affordable and widely used. Cast iron suits period properties, while steel is often specified on larger buildings. Aluminium sits somewhere between these options, and Alutec's ranges are made from marine-grade aluminium with a life expectancy of 50 years or more.
Aluminium does not rust and performs well in wet, exposed and coastal conditions. It's also 75% lighter than cast iron, making it easier and safer to handle on site, and less prone to cracking, fading, or distortion than lower-cost plastic systems.
Maintenance is close to zero beyond periodic cleaning: gutters need clearing to maintain flow rate and stop debris blocking downpipes, and the powder-coated finish should be washed down with water and a non-toxic detergent (no abrasive cleaners) to keep its colour. For buildings near trees, or anywhere access is restricted, leafguards are available as standard across the range.
All Alutec systems are manufactured to and in excess of the relevant BS or EN standards.
Alutec Evolve
Evolve is a good starting point for many residential and light commercial projects. It combines high flow rates, which reduce the number of downpipes a building needs, with Alutec's JuraJoint system: a jointing method that pairs a rubber seal with a silicone sealant for a joint that's thermally flexible and leak-free.
The range includes four main profiles:
Half Round is the familiar curved profile seen on many UK homes. It works well on extensions, refurbishments and new-build properties where a simple roofline is preferred.
Deepflow offers more capacity than a standard half-round gutter. It is useful on larger homes, steeper roofs and buildings where a large roof area drains into fewer outlets.
Box has a straight, angular shape that suits modern architecture, rendered properties and contemporary fascia details. Box and Ogee profiles use concealed fascia brackets for a sleek finish.
Ogee has a more decorative profile. It is a good option for homes that need more detail than a half-round or box system but do not require a full heritage-style finish.
Alutec Aligator
Aligator is designed for projects where installation speed and clean detailing matter. Aligator Classic is a domestic-sized ogee profile with external unions and brackets, commonly specified for community and local authority housing. The rest of the range, Deepflow, Ogee, Boxer and Giant, uses internal joints and concealed brackets for a cleaner, unobtrusive finish suited to modern building design, with Giant covering larger roofs that need more rainwater capacity.
What sets the Aligator range apart is its innovative Snap-Fit joint system. This patented design can reduce installation times by up to 40% compared to traditional bolted systems. Gutters, union joints and outlets simply click into place, eliminating the need for bolts, nuts or silicone sealants for a faster, cleaner installation.

Alutec Traditional
Period properties often need guttering that looks right for the building. A modern plastic profile can feel out of place on a listed home, a conservation property, or an older façade.
Alutec's Traditional range is a bolted gutter system built to BS 8530:2010 and manufactured to original British Standard cast iron dimensions, so it replaces cast iron on period, listed or heritage-style new-build properties without changing the roofline's proportions.

Matching round, square and rectangular downpipes are available, along with traditional hopper heads and fittings.
Alutec manufactures cast-socketed aluminium downpipes in both round (Tudor) and square profiles, designed to replicate the appearance of traditional cast iron while offering the advantages of modern aluminium.
The cast socketed round downpipes from Alutec are typically referred to as ‘Tudor’.
Like the Traditional gutter range, these downpipes are lightweight, corrosion-resistant and manufactured from marine-grade aluminium, providing a service life of 50 years or more with minimal maintenance.
A textured black finish is the most obvious choice for replacing cast iron, although other powder-coated colours can be specified where the guttering needs to complement stonework, timber windows or painted exterior details.
Alutec Evoke Aluminium Fascia & Soffit
Rainwater systems are often specified alongside fascia and soffit boards, particularly on new-build developments, refurbishments and complete roofline replacements. Alongside its guttering ranges, Alutec also manufactures the Evoke fascia and soffit system.
Unlike traditional timber or uPVC boards, Evoke is an aluminium composite fascia and soffit system that combines a durable aluminium outer skin with a lightweight composite core. Which Alutec system is right for your project?
For a typical house or extension, Evolve Half Round is often the most straightforward choice. Where the roof area is larger or more drainage capacity is needed, Evolve Deepflow may be more suitable.
Housing developments, schools, and public-sector buildings may benefit from Alligator, particularly when several buildings need the same system and installation time is critical.
For period properties, Alutec Traditional is usually the better fit, as it's built to the same standard as the cast iron it replaces.
The profile is only one part of the decision. Roof size, pitch, outlet position, downpipe capacity and local rainfall should all be considered before the system is ordered.
