What type of build does this Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW profile lend itself to?

Heritage cast Iron gutter & downpipes are typically installed on tradional grade 2 listing buildings, refurbishment or restoration of period properties.

What length do Cast Iron gutters come in?

Standard lengths are 1.8m long (6ft) with a cast socket at one end.

What are the recommended Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW bracket centers?

We allow two brackets per gutter length (every 915mm), one extra at outlets, or change in direction (angles).

What Profiles do you have available for the Gutter?

We currently have five gutter profiles - Half round, Beaded half round, Deep run, Victorian Ogee & Moulded ogee.

Can I use a standard silicone to join Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW Gutters?

No, that is not recommended due to the expansion and contraction of the product. We recommend that you use a low modulus sealant like dow corning 791. We can also provide a rubber jointing kit for the half round profiles only.

Can the Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW gutters be installed level?

When sizing the gutter we base this on a gutter being installed level. So in short yes you can as long as the system has been sized correctly using Alumasc's online calculator.

What lengths does the Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW Downpipe come in?

Standard lengths are 1.8m long (6ft) and 910mm long (3ft) these come eared or uneared.

What are Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW downpipe bracket centers?

The British standard stipulates a downpipe fixing no more than 2m apart. As our pipes come in 1.8m or 0.9m then if you use a eared pipes additional clips are not needed.

Why do I need to go for a painted finish as opposed to a primed finish?

If the Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW system is supplied unpainted, then it will come in a grey transit primer to protect the product. This finish is not ready for installation. It will need decorating onsite to protect the product before install. If the product is supply painted to one of our factory applies wet spray colours then it can be installed immediately after delivery.

If i choose to decorate Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW on site myself how many coats to I need to apply?

To fully protect the system three coats is needed. The transit grey primer will count as your first coat therefore a further coat of primer is needed before a top coat finish.

What colours do AWMS offer in cast iron Rain Water Systems?

Our cast iron is supplied in eight different colours. Its an advanced environmentally friendly water based three coat system factory applied under strictly controlled conditions.

How long should Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW painted finish last for?

Fully factory painted cast iron rainwater can last up to 10 years before it needs repainting. Depending on exposure to the weather, it may need a light touch up in 5-6 years to maintain the protection.

What do I need the backing foam for?

The rainwater socket is oversized at the top to allow for expansion of the system. The backing foam is used to centralize the joining pipe in place as per our standard installation instructions.

Do you supply a Leaf guard?

No we don’t, a leaf guard will actually reduce the flow of water into your gutter due to a build up of saturated leaf's sat on top of the system. This will increase weight on the system and will mean you will need a buggier size gutter. As long as regular maintenance is adhered to the system should be self cleansing.

My house is situated near a lot of trees, what should maintenance program be?

You should clean and wash out the gutters every quarter to ensure optimal efficiency of the system, in areas where there are a lot of trees the maintenance period should be reduced to once every two months.

What should I do if I have to cut the Apex Cast Iron RW gutters or downpipes, will it jepordise the powder coating finish?

As long as you defile the cut, and then use touch up paint to paint the exposed ends before install then it wont effect the performance of the system. Unpainted cut ends will rust due to the nature of cast iron and over time it will compromise the system.

What do I do if I live near a Marine environment?

We would suggest you install the brackets using a stainless steel screw, and ensure the system is cleaned down on a quarterly basis to remove any salt build up on the system.

Are these Alumasc Apex Cast Iron RW products recyclable?

Yes Apex Cast Iron is 100% recyclable.
