What size is a standard plastic downpipe?

Plastic downpipes come in a range of sizes rather than a single standard. Common diameters include 68mm round and 65mm square, with larger options available up to 200mm or more for higher-capacity rainwater systems. Our Brett Martin range offers both circular and square PVC downpipes to suit all types of properties, from residential homes to commercial buildings.

How do you fit plastic downpipes?

Plastic downpipes are straightforward to install. They are connected using couplings, brackets, and outlets, and simply slot together. Brackets are fixed to the building to support the downpipe, and sections are joined in sequence from the gutter outlet to the drainage point. We provide guides and videos to make installation simple, even for DIY projects.

What plastic downpipe profiles are available?

Brett Martin plastic downpipes are available in several profiles to suit different property styles:

Round – classic and versatile, ideal for most homes.

Square or rectangular – modern look for contemporary buildings.

Cast iron effect profiles – designed to replicate traditional cast iron for period properties.

Are plastic downpipes suitable for all property types?

Yes, plastic downpipes are lightweight, durable, and versatile, making them suitable for residential, commercial, and smaller industrial properties. They work well on both modern and traditional buildings, especially when used in conjunction with decorative profiles for heritage aesthetics.

How do you maintain plastic downpipes?

Plastic downpipes require minimal maintenance. Remove leaves and debris periodically, rinse with water, and check for any minor damage. Unlike metal, they do not rust, and cleaning is straightforward using standard garden tools or a hose.

Are plastic downpipes UV-resistant?

Yes, Brett Martin plastic downpipes are UV stabilised, which prevents fading, brittleness, or degradation in sunlight. This ensures they maintain their appearance and performance over a long period.

How long do plastic downpipes last?

With proper installation, plastic downpipes can last at least 20 years or more. Their corrosion resistance, lightweight design, and durable material make them a reliable long-term solution for rainwater management.

Do plastic downpipes need frequent replacement?

No, plastic downpipes are low-maintenance and highly durable. Provided they are correctly installed and kept free from heavy blockages or accidental damage, they rarely need replacement, making them a cost-effective choice over the long term.
